Who to ask
- In areas of Bexar County outside any city's limits, the county says the Bexar County Fire Marshal's Office decides when building permits are needed.
- Bexar County Public Works handles floodplain and stormwater permits. Big digging jobs (1 acre or more) need a stormwater permit.
- If you live in another city, like Alamo Heights or Converse, ask that city's permit office.
Before anyone digs
Texas law requires an 811 call two business days before digging.
