Full removal
- The whole pool comes out: walls, floor, and steel.
- The hole is filled with dirt and packed down.
- Usually more work, so it often costs more.
- A good choice if you may build on that spot later. Ask the company and the city.
Partial removal (fill-in)
- The top part of the pool is broken out.
- Holes are made in the floor so water can drain.
- The rest is left in the ground and filled with dirt and rubble.
- Usually less work. But it can matter later, for example if you sell or want to build there.
Ask first: Cities can treat full and partial removal differently. Before you pick, ask the City of San Antonio Development Services Department what your job needs. Tell the company your plans for that spot.
Questions to ask the company
- Full or partial? Why?
- What fill dirt will you use? How will you pack it down?
- Will the city inspect before the hole is filled?
- Who gets the permit? (It should be the company.)
- Where will the debris go?

What is the difference between full and partial pool removal?
Full removal takes the whole pool out and fills the hole. Partial removal breaks out the top, drills drain holes in the floor, and fills the rest. Ask the city what your job needs.
Which one is cheaper?
Partial removal is usually less work. Prices vary by pool and company, so get written quotes.
